GCUP TOWER SHOOT
11/09/24
This boy right here, my first birddog, heart dog, and best friend. He was absolutely phenomenal today. The tower shoot consisted of stations for the shooters. The birds were either shot and dropped in front of the station and we had to wait for station switches to go retrieve them, or they flew past into the wood line and Mo could get them as they landed. Mo heeled in front of me patiently watching birds being dropped in front of him. He waited for me to tell him okay on the birds buzzing past us. He would meet them as they hit the ground and bring them back to me. Then go back to waiting. As the blow horn would go off we both headed in the middle and in front of the stations to pick up the dropped birds. He knew there was always another one to pick up, straight to hand and then back out. Once we went to head back to the clubhouse Mo found a pheasant in the tree and would not leave it. I threw multiple sticks and rocks at this thing to get it out of the tree. To no prevail I couldn’t get it out of the tree. So we went to the clubhouse for lunch and heard it yapping in the tree the whole time. After the tower shoot the handlers took groups out to pick up all the birds that didn’t make it down the hill or got past the stations. Points were held tight until the gentleman made it up to Mo and flushed the bird. Every bird retrieved and if one of them asked Mo to drop the bird he kindly obliged so he could move on to the next find. Mo found 12-15 birds just himself. As we moved up the hill more dogs and handlers joined in on the fun together. Having six dogs on the ground there wasn’t five minutes that passed that we didn’t hear point and then a pheasant would go up. Birddogs getting into their prime years I’ve heard about but always wondered what they meant by it. I think I know now. He worked his ass off today and I couldn’t ask of anything more from him. Working so well with your birddog is the best feeling.
